How To Encourage A Feeling Of Fullness When On A Diet

Posted on

If you want to lose weight, but have a problem feeling full for a long period of time, then you may need a little bit of help with your plan to ensure that you feel full for longer. Keep reading to learn about some things that can help you.

Eat More Protein

Most people stay away from foods that are high in protein when they are on a diet. However, protein can make you feel full for longer. Simply put, protein takes longer to digest than carbohydrates and sugars, and this means that your stomach will not empty nearly as quickly as it would if you eat a bunch of carbs. Protein will also help you with building your muscles if you invest in an exercise regimen, and it will provide you with long-lasting energy so you do not feel as tired as you cut calories from your diet.

In general, about 20% to 30% of your caloric intake should come from protein. And, you should concentrate on low-fat protein options that include eggs, chicken, turkey, beans, soy, and pork. Greek yogurt as well as dairy-based yogurts are options as well.

Since protein helps to curb your hunger, make sure to start the day with some protein by eating eggs or by adding some turkey bacon to your meal.

Stay Away From Meal Replacement Drinks

Some people enjoy smoothies, meal replacements, and other types of drinks instead of eating a meal. This may seem as though it is the most nutritious option if you are on-the-go most of the day. However, individuals will often underestimate the number of calories they ingest when consuming a fluid. This often results in a higher calorie consumption, and you are likely to feel hungry as the fluid meal is quickly digested by the body.

Fluid meals and smoothies are also consumed quite quickly. Your body then does not have enough time to signal a feeling of being full, and you may continue to consume your drink even if your stomach has filled up.

The sensation of prolonged chewing and tasting can help to create a sensation of being full as well, so think about eating foods that require some work. Both celery and raw carrots must be chewed extensively, and this is true of other fruits and vegetables as well. And, these foods are typically low in calories, so work to add more of them into your diet plan. The addition of fiber that is present in whole fruits and vegetables can encourage a feeling of being full, too.
